Punjab Kings Defeats Chennai Super Kings By 4 Wickets
Punjab Kings on Tuesday outdid Chennai Super Kings by four wickets during a well-fought f73 IPL 2025 match. The match hero was Yuzvendra Chahal, who bagged his first hat-trick of the season to lead his team to victory.
Chahal Makes Adjustments Based on Pitch Response
Talking in the post-game session, Chahal discussed his performance. According to him, his hat-trick was the result of a change in bowling line according to strategy. With the fast bowlers throwing the ball at reduced speeds, Chahal noticed that the ball was not flowing along nicely onto the bat. This allowed him to decide the right line and length to pitch at.
I watched how the slow bowlers bowled on the field. The ball was seaming and coming slowly. That gave me an idea about what line to bowl," Chahal said in a video uploaded on the IPL website.
Details of the Hat-trick: Dhoni, Hooda, Kamboj, and Ahmed Fall in Quick Succession
Chahal's dominance came in the later stages of the innings. In the 19th over, the skipper removed MS Dhoni who had scored 11 runs first. He later dismissed Deepak Hooda (2), Anshul Kamboj (0), and Noor Ahmed (0), completing a rare hat-trick.
The hat-trick executed by Chahal was a unique one in IPL 2025 and his second one in his IPL career.
"I Wanted to Take a Wicket No Matter What" – Chahal
Chahal had set himself up in his mind to bowl the 19th or 20th over. He was determined to pick up at least one wicket in his spell, without being distracted by the fear of conceding big shots.
I saw MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube at the crease. I just wanted to get a wicket in my over. I was not even thinking about being hit for runs. I just thought I need to give my best," he said, with Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer by his side in the video.
