- The BCCI has announced both the timetable and the locations which will host all IPL 2026 playoff matches. The playoff stage will be held across three matches before the final. The final venue has been switched to Ahmedabad which will host the event instead of Bengaluru.
- The IPL 2026 league stage will finish on May 24. The play offs will start two days later. The knockout stage will determine which two groups advance to the championship match.
The IPL 2026 Playoffs Format Description
The play offs follow the standard IPL system. The top four teams on the points table qualify.
- Teams ranked 1 and 2 play Qualifier 1
- The winner of Qualifier 1 advances to the championship match
- The loser of Qualifier 1 receives a second opportunity
- The teams ranked 3 and 4 will compete in the Eliminator
- The winner of the Eliminator moves to Qualifier 2
- The winner of Qualifier 2 reaches the final
This system provides two opportunities for the two highest ranked teams. It allows all four qualified teams to remain in the competition.
Venues for IPL 2026 Playoffs
The BCCI has designated two locations which will host all knockout matches. The South Indian region will not host any playoff matches during this season.
Match-wise schedule
- Qualifier 1: Dharamshala – May 26
- Eliminator: Chandigarh – May 27
- Qualifier 2: Chandigarh – May 29
- Final (IPL 2026): Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad – May 31
Chandigarh will host two important matches. Dharamshala will host the opening qualifier.
Final Venue Change to Ahmedabad
- The final venue change stands as the primary update. The IPL 2026 finals will be played in Ahmedabad.
- The BCCI selected Narendra Modi Stadium as the location for the title championship. The decision to host the event at this location comes after officials selected Bengaluru as the previous option.
- The stadium in Ahmedabad has a large capacity. It has hosted major cricket events before. Its contemporary amenities make it a well-known cricket venue.
