Sreesanth Suspended By Kerala Cricket Association Over Comments On Sanju Samson

The Kerala Cricket Association has banned the former Indian cricket player Sreesanth for three years. This was because of what he said in the media about the omission of Sanju Samson from Kerala's Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. Sreesanth, who is also a co-owner of the Kollam Aries team in the Kerala Cricket League, insulted the KCA on a live panel show. In a rebuttal, the association held his words to be defamatory and that they would adversely affect the organization's reputation.

KCA Acted on Public Accusations

The furore ensued after Sreesanth accused a Malayalam TV show that Sanju Samson was left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy because of internal politics. He also alleged that this snub affected Samson's non-selection for the ICC Champions Trophy. The Kerala Cricket Association had a hand in keeping the player out of major domestic tournaments, Sreesanth claimed.

In turn, the KCA arranged a meeting on April 30 and issued a formal statement clarifying the situation. The association claimed that Sreesanth's public remarks had brought shame upon it. The association also confirmed that Sanju Samson never received official support for Sreesanth's assertion, so Sreesanth's assertions remained null and void, according to the association.

The punishment comprises a three-year ban from KCA-related activities. Being the co-owner of the Kollam Aries franchise, Sreesanth's participation in the affairs of the league is no longer restricted. The association also initiated legal action against Sanju Samson's father, Samson Vishwanath, and two others on charges of leveling baseless allegations regarding the selection process regarding Sreesanth.

Earlier, the KCA had sent show-cause notices to the Alappuzha Repulse and Kollam Aries and Alappuzha Team Lead franchises after some controversial comments made by Sreesanth. Following their replies, however, the association found their responses satisfactory and chose not to penalize them. The KCA has also instructed all the franchise management teams to be more careful while selecting representatives.
