Virat Kohli Explains Why He Retired From International T20s After 2024 World Cup

Future of Team Made Him Take Early Retirement

Virat Kohli officially retired from international T20 cricket following India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Recently, he revealed why he retired.

Kohli told that stepping down now will allow the team to start preparations for the next World Cup. It would take at least two years, according to him, for new players to settle into international cricket, gain experience, and understand how to handle pressure moments.

Kohli Prioritized Team Growth

Kohli clarified that the step was taken in the best interest of the team. He added new players are already going to be a part of the team. To become better, they need constant match time under various conditions and tournaments.

He also added, "To help them get the right exposure and confidence, they need to play more and more games until the next World Cup. That is the reason why I have decided to retire the day after this one."
