Sri Lanka Clinches First ODI Victory Over India In Seven Years

Sri Lanka's Late Batting Defies India to Win Tri-Series

India's unbeaten streak in the women's tri-series was broken when Sri Lanka gave a determined show to record a three-wicket win in Colombo on Sunday. It is seven years since Sri Lanka got their last ODI win against India, which is only their third in 34 matches.

India batted first, scoring 275 for 9 in 50 overs. Richa Ghosh played the innings on a positive note with a 58 off 48 balls, including five fours and three sixes. 37 was Jemimah Rodrigues’ score, while 35 and 30 were added by Pratik Rawal and the captain Harmanpreet Kaur respectively. India failed to capitalize on the good start of 101/2, slipping to 188/6 before Ghosh rescued the innings with a quick one.

Sri Lankan bowlers kept relentless pressure. Sugandhika Kumari had the figures of 3 for 44, and Chamari Atapattu equaled her with 3 for 43, basically stopping India's run flow during the middle overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka successfully chased the target in 49.1 overs, winding up at 278 for 7. Nilakshika Silva was declared Player of the Match for her decisive 56 off a mere 33 balls with five fours and three sixes. Earlier, Harshita Samarawickrama set the tone with a calm 53 off 61 balls.

After losing the middle-order and being 238 for 7 in 43 over's Sugandhika Kumari (19 not out) and Anushka Sanjeewani (23 not out) produced an Unbeaten stand of 40 runs which lasted the game for Sri Lanka.

India's Sneha Rana had top bowling figures with 3 wickets for 45 but found no enough supporting hand on either side.
