Sunrisers Hyderabad Miss IPL 2025 Playoffs Following Washed-Out Match

Rain Brings Match Between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad to an End

The IPL 2025 encounter between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Uppal on Monday was abandoned because of rain. As Delhi had the first opportunity and scored 133 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, there was no possibility for Hyderabad to chase the runs. The rain washout sealed Sunrisers Hyderabad's destiny of not playing the playoffs in official terms.

Sunrisers Win Only Three Out of Eleven Matches

Sunrisers have so far played 11 games this season but could only secure three wins. Consequently, the team has been knocked out of the playoff race. The head coach Daniel Vettori commented on the performance of the team following the postponed match.

Head Coach Points to Unfavorable Pitch Conditions

Daniel Vettori added that the team would not play every match aggressively. He described that this season was different from the last one. In 2024, the majority of matches were scoring matches. On the other hand, this season's Hyderabad pitches were not batting-friendly.

Out of the pitches used, only two supported scores above 250 runs. Four pitches helped fast bowlers. Spin bowlers also didn’t find much support. Vettori added that facing the new ball was hard for batters. He said the ball was not coming onto the bat well.

Delhi Match Was a Missed Opportunity

Discussing the game against Delhi, Vettori revealed that the team had won a mere three of ten games up to Monday. He complimented the bowlers on limiting Delhi to 133 runs. However, rain, which he described as "Varuna," marred their prospects to bat.

Vettori added that the whole season was disappointing. He said that there was no consistency among players. He also pointed out that it was a difficult season for Mohammed Shami. In spite of this, Shami performed with his best effort in every match.
