Ricky Ponting Stays Back After Ceasefire, Assures Punjab Kings Players

Ponting Reversed His Decision After Ceasefire News

Because of the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, the IPL was delayed by one week. Because of this, most foreign players and officials decided to head back home. Punjab Kings' head coach Ricky Ponting had initially decided to return to Australia. He even took a flight. But after listening to the news of the ceasefire, he immediately got off the plane and decided to remain in Delhi.

Foreign Players Planned to Leave

A few foreign players from the Punjab Kings team, namely Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardy, Josh Inglis, and Bartlett, were looking to head back home. On hearing this, Ponting talked to them. He informed them about the ceasefire scenario and assured them that they were safe. He pacified them saying there was no cause for concern and urged them to remain in India.

Punjab Kings Source Confirmed the Situation

A source from the Punjab Kings team explained the issue. “Foreign players are not used to such situations. It is natural for them to feel worried. Many of them wanted to go home quickly. We understand their concern. But Ponting spoke to them after the ceasefire and helped them stay calm.”

Marco Jansen Left for Home

South African player Marco Jansen, who often played in the final eleven for Punjab Kings, left for home through Dubai. Apart from him, most of the Indian and foreign players are still with the team.
