Resumption of the Tournament Awaits Final Clearance
The Indian Premier League (IPL), which was earlier suspended because of India-Pakistan tensions, can resume on May 16 or 17. After a ceasefire announcement, the path has been cleared for the resumption of the tournament. But final clearance awaits a government decision.
BCCI Negotiates to Finalize Schedule
Representatives from the IPL governing body and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met on Sunday to decide on the probable revival. BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla mentioned that preparations are in progress. He assured that no decision has been taken finally. The BCCI Secretary and IPL Chairman are going to talk to the franchises before making a statement. He assured that efforts are being made to resume the league shortly.
Franchises Instructed to Recollect Players
Sources indicated that franchises have been asked by the BCCI to recall their players. The tournament would resume around mid-May. Double headers would make up the rest of the league matches. Tentatively, June 1 is the date planned for the final of IPL 2025. Four cities alone—Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru—would host the remaining 16 matches. CSK, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are reportedly out of play-off contention.
Government Clearance Still Needed
Government clearance is still needed to resume the IPL, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed. According to him, in the next few days, the board will discuss with franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and host state associations. A decision will be finalized after that.
Punjab vs Delhi Match Likely Cancelled
The Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was called off due to recent tensions. Punjab had scored 122 runs for 3 wickets in 10.1 overs when the match was cut short. It will not likely be resumed. Both sides are likely to get one point each.
Gujarat Titans Resume Training
Gujarat Titans resumed training first after the truce. Currently topping the table with 16 points, the team practised at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The practice session was confirmed by a team official, who added that the players appeared full of energy. All foreign players, apart from Jos Buttler (England) and Koesji (South Africa), are in India. Those who are overseas can return if required, according to team sources.
