Sunil Gavaskar: Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Unlikely To Play In 2027 ODI World Cup

Rohit and Virat Retired from Test and T20 Cricket

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli declared their retirement from Test cricket before the England series. They had previously retired from the T20 format. Both players are now only active in One Day Internationals (ODIs) presently.

2027 World Cup Participation in Doubt

Earlier, Virat Kohli had declared his intention of playing at the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma also views ODIs as a major format. Sunil Gavaskar, ex-India captain, is doubtful about their participation in the 2027 tournament.

Gavaskar Questions Future Performance and Selection

Gavaskar concurred that both the cricketers play well in ODIs even today. But he questioned if they could replicate similar aggressive and consistent performance in 2027 or not. He further added that the selectors themselves have to make the final choice.

Personal View Suggests They May Not Play

Sunil Gavaskar gave his own opinion. The assumption is that Rohit and Virat will find it very hard to be included in the 2027 ODI World Cup squad. But he also admitted that if both of them continue to score runs and perform well, no one can rule them out—not even a higher authority.
