India to Manage Critical Vacancies in Test Team after Kohli and Rohit's Exit
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recently hung up their Test boots. They have left such a big space in India's batting lineup before the tour to England. Now, both top-order batsmen are gone, and India needs substitutes. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, will walk to the field first for batting. But at number four, it is not decided yet. Kohli would take that number four slot for all these years.
Kumble Supports Karun Nair at Number Four Position
Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble has also given his take on the matter. He was the one who suggested that the selection committee should send Karun Nair to England. Kumble stated that Karun is doing well and has played in England conditions. He also noted that Karun performed well in domestic cricket and the IPL.
Kumble Points out Nair's Domestic and County Experience
India currently requires players who are experienced with English pitches, as per Kumble. Karun Nair has played county cricket and knows the conditions. Even though he is 33, Kumble feels Karun is still fit and ready. He added that giving opportunities to players like Karun motivates young players to play in first-class cricket.
Nair's Strong Performance in Ranji Trophy
Karun Nair was an important player in the victory of Vidarbha in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. He made 863 runs from 16 games. His average was 53.93. He made four centuries and two half-centuries during the tournament. These numbers placed him at the fourth-highest run-scorer of the season.
Nair's Past Test Experience
Karun Nair has played six Test matches. He debuted in 2016 against England. In his third Test, he scored a triple century—303 runs off 381 balls—at Chennai. His last Test match was in March 2017. He now plays for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
