Mumbai Indians Sign Jonny Bairstow And Richard Gleeson As Replacements

Foreign Players' Access Affects IPL 2025

The week-delayed IPL 2025 season starts afresh now after a ceasefire deal ended the tension along India-Pakistan borders. But there is no chance for a few foreign players to return and complete the remaining games. Some overseas players are available until May 27 according to previous deals.

In reply to this, the BCCI has authorized franchises to hire ad hoc deals for players who did not get sold in the latest auction.

Mumbai Indians Make Quicks Changes

Mumbai Indians have made a move by signing Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson. This following Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks' unavailability.

Rickelton will be England's representative in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Will Jacks is replacing England in the West Indies series. The two players will be unavailable for the IPL playoffs because of national obligation.

Bairstow and Gleeson Join the Squad

Jonny Bairstow has been a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in the IPL already. No side picked him during the 2025 IPL auction. Mumbai Indians have now hired him to bolster their squad.

Richard Gleeson appeared for Chennai Super Kings in just two matches in the 2024 IPL season. He now comes along with Mumbai in the latter half of the tournament.

Effect of Player Shifts on Mumbai Indians

Losing Rickelton and Jacks is a setback. Rickelton contributed with strong batting performances. With his bat and through his bowling, Jacks was the one who provided the backup for both the roles. Their absence affects team balance.

It is now Bairstow and Gleeson who will be counted on by the Mumbai Indians to do these roles. Their performance in upcoming matches will be important for Mumbai’s title hopes.
