
Dispute Rises Up in Cell of Cell in Punjab Kings Ownership
Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta approached Cell a Chandigarh court. She filed a case against co-directors Ness Wadia and Mohit Burman. A row that had arisen from a company meeting that she alleges had violated governance norms.
Legal Test to EGM Held by Co-Directors
All three of them are directors of the IPL team Punjab Kings' owner, KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. Zinta's petition is about the lawfulness of an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) which took place on 21st April. She claims that the meeting was not according to the guidelines laid down under the Companies Act 2013.
Allegations of Bypassing Governance Protocols
Zinta said that she had sent a letter to the board by email on April 10 against the move but was disregarded. She alleges that Mohit Burman, who is backed by Ness Wadia, was in a hurry to go ahead with the meeting despite her protests.
Zinta and Paul Disapproved Board Decisions
Even though Zinta and director Karan Paul attended the meeting, they were not happy with the decisions taken at the meeting. The appointment of Munish Khanna as a new director was one of the resolutions passed. Zinta has petitioned the court to invalidate this appointment.
Request to Block Implementation of Meeting Resolutions
In her petition, Zinta requested the court to enjoin the company from acting upon any decisions passed in the controversial meeting. She also petitioned the court to refrain from holding future board meetings in the absence of her and Karan Paul until the matter is settled.
Zinta Continues Public Support for Team Despite Internal Conflict
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Zinta has continued to be supportive of the Punjab Kings and watched their matches. She has been seen encouraging players on the field during matches. Punjab Kings, with the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, have performed well this year and made it to the playoffs after a gap of 11 years. The team is now targeting a top 2 position.
