India's England Tour Begins June 20
India will begin a five-Test series against England on June 20, following the conclusion of the IPL. Due to fitness and workload concerns, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may not be available for every match in the series.
Bumrah's Availability Will Be Limited
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Bumrah’s participation will be restricted. Team physiotherapists have advised that Bumrah is not in a condition to play all five Tests. Therefore, he is expected to feature in only some matches.
Shubman Gill Considered for Test Captaincy
Agarkar also discussed the possibility of Shubman Gill leading the Test side. He said the selectors have been observing Gill’s leadership potential since last year. While acknowledging the pressure that comes with captaincy, Agarkar expressed confidence in Gill’s ability to manage it well.
Mohammed Shami Not Selected Due to Fitness
Agarkar addressed the absence of Mohammed Shami from the squad. He stated that Shami has not yet regained full fitness to meet team requirements. Although the selectors had hoped for his return, he remains unavailable for the England tour.
