Sehwag Slams BCCI For Digvesh Rathi's Suspension
Former cricketer Virender Sehwag has recently commented on the suspension of Lucknow Super Giants player Digvesh Rathi during the ongoing IPL season. Rathi was noticed for his "notebook celebration" and was fined three times. After being fined for previous incidents, he was suspended for one match after committing a third offense.
Sehwag Points Out Inequality in Treatment
Sehwag stated the ban was excessive, particularly because Rathi is new in the IPL. He drew a parallel between this incident and previous conduct from veteran players such as MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who had not been banned despite the same actions.
“The ban on Digvesh seemed harsh. It’s his first IPL season. MS Dhoni came onto the field in anger, and he wasn’t banned. Kohli argued with umpires several times, and nothing happened to him. So Digvesh should have been treated similarly,” Sehwag explained.
Dhoni’s 2019 Incident Recalled
Sehwag recalled an experience during the 2019 IPL season when MS Dhoni came onto the field in a game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. He had an argument with the umpires when he asked them to revoke a no-ball call. Though the action was against the rules of the IPL code of conduct, Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fee and not suspended.
