Gauff Defeats Sabalenka to Win French Open Title
American tennis star Coco Gauff captured the French Open championship by beating top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff had made it to the final in 2022 but lost to Iga Swiatek. Three years later, she came back to the final and captured her first Roland Garros title.
Gauff Shares Mental Preparation and Role Model
Gauff reported that she remained motivated and never lost hope. She reported that American sprinter Gabrielle Thomas motivated her. Gabrielle Thomas had won gold in the women's 200m event at the Paris Olympics. Gabrielle Thomas, according to Gauff, used to keep repeating "I will be the Olympic champion" in the notepad of her phone. Gauff liked her mentality and chose to experiment with the same thing.
Gauff Used Positive Affirmation for Motivation
Gauff practiced "I will be the 2025 French Open winner" on paper. She would also stand in front of a mirror and visualize herself as the champion. Gauff stated she had no idea if it was effective but felt like it gave her more confidence. She had even written on Instagram four years ago that she wished to win the French Open.
Gauff Prepares for Upcoming Grass Season
With Wimbledon starting on June 30, Gauff plans to compete in the Berlin grass court tournament next week. This event will help her prepare for the next Grand Slam.
