Gill Places Overseas Test Wins High
In a media interaction, Gill was queried if winning the IPL or winning a five-match Test series in England is more prestigious. He replied that for him, winning a Test series in England is more significant.
Captaincy an Infrequent Honour
Gill clarified that being the captain of the Indian Test team is a unique honour. Not many get this opportunity. He stated that a player can only become the captain of England two or three times in their entire career. The IPL, however, occurs annually. Thus, a team has a fresh opportunity to win the IPL every season. In his opinion, winning Test series in nations such as England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa is of utmost significance.
Gill Discusses England's Style of Play
When questioned regarding England's attacking play called "Bazball," Gill provided a humorous answer. He asserted that India's brand of cricket will become apparent only in August.
India's Probable Lineup for the First Test
Gill confirmed that he will bat at number four in the first Test. Though, he did not confirm the complete batting order or the bowling line-up. He spoke of the possibility of India employing just six specialist batsmen. He emphasized that securing 20 wickets is the most important thing in winning Test matches. The team is planning to play with six batsmen, one all-rounder, and three or four specialist bowlers.
