Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Don Bradman's Record In First Test Against England

India Dominates Day One at Headingley

India started the first Test match against England on Friday at Headingley, Leeds. The Indian team batted first and posted 359 runs for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of the day. Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 127 runs, and Rishabh Pant was not out on 65 runs.

Jaiswal Sets a New Record Against England

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century and shattered a big record. He has now made 813 runs in 10 innings against England at an average of 90.33. This is above Don Bradman's 89.78 average (minimum of 500 runs) against England. Bradman had made 5,028 runs in 63 innings. With this record, Jaiswal became the lone batsman to have an average of over 90 against England.

Gill and Pant Achieve Milestones

Shubman Gill went past 2,000 career Test runs in his unbeaten score. He played 175 balls, scoring 16 fours and 1 six. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant also reached 3,000 Test runs as he scored 65 runs from 102 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. The two established a 138-run fourth-wicket association from 198 balls.

India Shatters Opening Day Record

India also set their own record for the largest first-day score against England. Their previous highest was 338 for 7 wickets at Edgbaston in 2022. This time, they scored 359 for 3 wickets. To put that in perspective, South Africa managed 362 for 4 wickets on the first day at The Oval in 2003, the record highest by a touring team in England.
