Team India Needs To Improve Approach In Test Matches: Sunil Gavaskar

India Suffers Defeat in First Test

India lost the opening Test match against England, placing the visitors in the lead of the series with 1-0. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed his discomfort with the team's performance. According to him, the players were not able to meet the standards of Test cricket, even when five Indian batsmen made centuries.

Gavaskar Hails England's Belief and Performance

Gavaskar attributed credit to England's team. He stated that England played with determination and belief. As per him, India got opportunities to win but did not capitalize on them. Loose bowling and missed catches due to poor fielding helped England take control. Gavaskar stated that such errors cannot be tolerated in a Test match.

Comment on Pitch and Bumrah's Effort

Gavaskar spoke about the pitch in Headingley. He said it was a good pitch to bat on. He enjoyed bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and added that Bumrah required more contribution from other bowlers. Gavaskar did not criticize the bowlers heavily and stated it is just the first match of the series. He thinks India can still get better and play competitively in the future games.

Advice on Preparation and Training

He advised Indian players to stay focused and not skip practice. With eight days before the next Test match, he said players can rest briefly but must return to hard training. Gavaskar suggested avoiding optional practice sessions and giving full effort in preparation to represent the country properly.
