Jasprit Bumrah Should Play Second Test, Says Ravi Shastri

Second Test Match Scheduled at Edgbaston

The second India vs England Test match will be held at Edgbaston from July 2. India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has said earlier that he will not play all five Tests of the series because of workload management. He made it clear that he will play only three Tests.

Shastri Warns Against Resting Bumrah

Ravi Shastri, a former India coach, is of the opinion that resting Bumrah for the second Test is not a good plan. He noted that India is already 1-0 down in the five-match series. Bumrah's absence could see the team going 2-0 down, making a comeback very challenging.

Bumrah's Possible Availability Discussed

"Bumrah has assured that he will play three Test matches," Shastri stated in an interview with a sporting channel. "It's not known which three matches he has selected. He may avoid the second one to remain fit for the third match at Lord's. Leaving him out now could be detrimental to India's prospects. I think he should definitely play the second Test."

India Needs a Strong Response

Shastri was keen on the fact that India needs to perform well in the second Test to remain competitive. He cited past series defeats to New Zealand (3-0) and Australia as areas of worry. With England's bowling unit being impacted by injuries, Shastri called on India to capitalize and rebound big in this encounter.
