Siraj Penalized for On-Field Incident
During the third India-England Test match at Lord's, Mohammed Siraj was penalized by the ICC. The incident occurred on the fourth day of the match. On dismissing Ben Duckett, Siraj celebrated and his shoulder hit Duckett's. The ICC penalized Siraj 15% of his match fee for breaching the code of conduct.
Gavaskar Claims Siraj's Celebration Was Misread
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came to the defense of Siraj. In his opinion, Siraj did nothing inappropriate in the celebration. As far as Gavaskar is concerned, Ben Duckett approached Siraj and that's when the shoulder brushing took place. He added that Siraj did not behave aggressively or taunt the batter.
Sunil Gavaskar quote
"I did not see anything wrong with Siraj's celebration over the wicket," said Gavaskar. "Duckett walked into his way, and Siraj's shoulder knocked him. It didn't look like a deliberate act," he said.
Nasser Hussain's backing
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain also came in favor of Siraj. He said that emotional outbursts are a part of cricket. Hussain added that players are not machines and should be given a chance to show emotions on the field.
Quote of Nasser Hussain
"Players do have emotions," replied Hussain. "Tallies sometimes appear fierce, but that is instinct. It would not be entertaining to see 22 emotionless players on the field."
