India Trails 1-2 Ahead of Fourth Test in Manchester

Greg Chappell's Opinion on Gill's Position
Former Australian cricketer and former India coach Greg Chappell expressed his views in a column for a sports news website. In Chappell's opinion, the Manchester Test would be Shubman Gill's greatest challenge. He pointed out the test for Gill as a batsman and also as captain.
Gill's Leadership Still Evolving
Chappell indicated that Gill is learning to lead. He enjoyed Gill's enthusiasm on the field, particularly at the Lord's Test. At that point, Gill challenged Jack Crawley for supposedly wasting time. Chappell said that such incidents only count when a team wins.
He further said that effective communicators tend to make effective captains. Gill must be one of them, he said. Both in the course of practice and during matches, and in the dressing room during intervals, Gill must communicate clearly and composedly. Scoring runs on a regular basis is not feasible for any player, Chappell stressed. Gill should therefore concentrate on lifting others' spirits and maintaining a cheerful mood.
Jadeja's Approach at Lord's Questioned
Chappell also talked about Ravindra Jadeja's performance in the Lord's Test, in which India battled but lost. He thought that Jadeja could have taken more chances in the game.
He criticized Jadeja for playing defensive cricket, stating that a player should not only rotate strike and trust tailenders. Chappell thought that Jadeja required a message from the dressing room: that the match must be won at all costs.
