Rishabh Pant Suffers Injury Setback Once Again
Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is currently facing another injury. He injured his hand in the third Test match. He also injured his leg in the fourth match. He suffered the injury while attempting a reverse sweep and Chris Woakes' ball hit his leg hard.
Team Waiting for Medical Update
Young Indian batsman Sai Sudarshan said further information regarding Pant's injury will be known today. He mentioned this in the post-match press conference following Day 1. Sudarshan went on to say that even if Pant doesn't bat in the first innings, others are capable of filling in the shoes.
"Pant's injury is hurting. He has gone for a scan. We will have clear visibility today. He batted well in the first innings. If he cannot return to bat, it will be damaging to the team. But we have all-rounders, and other batsmen will also play more sensibly. We are looking to take the innings forward," Sudarshan said.
Sai Sudarsson on His Debut Performance
Sudarshan, who made his Test debut in this match, said he was happy with his performance.
"I got a half-century and didn't feel stressed. I viewed this as an opportunity to express myself. There is always some pressure when playing for England. But I kept my focus on playing my natural game. I never thought that I was replacing anyone. If I had thought of it that way, I would have felt more pressurized and had a tough time. So I remained focused," he clarified.
Expert Opinion: Pant's Injury Could Affect Match Result
Ex-England cricketer and commentator Michael Atherton made a statement regarding the severity of Pant's injury.
"Pant is injured again. If he's out of the match or series, it's a big blow for India. At 264/4, we can think of it as 264/5. India's lower order will be in trouble if one more new ball arrives. If Pant does bat, he can turn things around. But his injury does appear to be bad," Atherton said.
