Abhimanyu Easwaran's Exclusion Raises Questions From His Father

Three Players Left Unused in the Test Series Against England

In the five-match Test series between India and England, three of India's players did not participate in a single match. The players are Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Although they traveled with the team, they were on the bench. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has yet to make his Test debut, was many's expectations to be given an opportunity.

Father Questions the Selection Process

Abhimanyu's father Ranganathan condemned the selectors for ignoring his son. He said that Abhimanyu has been scoring runs regularly in domestic cricket but has not been given a chance. Ranganathan also questioned why Karun Nair was selected despite his failure in the first four Tests and half-century in the fifth.

Comparison Between Karun and Abhimanyu

Ranganathan noted that Abhimanyu was ignored even though he had scored 864 runs in home tournaments like the Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy. In contrast, Karun never played in these tournaments before but was also selected. Although Karun achieved over 800 runs this year, Ranganathan wondered why Abhimanyu's past performance was not valued.

Concerns Over Selection Criteria

He added that some selectors quoted Abhimanyu's poor performances in two India A games. Nevertheless, Ranganathan argued that one or two games should not override domestic form, which is regular. He also expressed doubts whether IPL performance was a prime consideration for Test cricket, which handles different skills and endurance.

Emotional Impact on Abhimanyu Easwaran

According to his father, Abhimanyu was also psychologically disturbed because he had been neglected. Sitting on the bench throughout the series and not debuting at all brought some psychological pressure. Ranganathan emphasized placing more emphasis on the performance in the first-class matches at the time of selecting Test players.
