PCB Reacts Following WCL Incident
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took a fresh decision after the India Champions declined to play against Pakistan in the World Championship Legends (WCL) tournament. This follows after former Indian cricketers boycotted playing, reacting to public demands for boycott following the recent terror attack on Pahalgam.
Use of 'Pakistan' Now Needs PCB Approval
As per PCB sources, the board has resolved that private leagues can no longer use the term 'Pakistan' without official clearance. Any team that wants to represent the nation in such tournaments has to first obtain clearance from the PCB.
- PCB said: "We discussed a number of issues in the board meeting last Thursday."
- One of them was India's refusal to play against Pakistan in the WCL.
- From now on, no side can play in any competition using the name 'Pakistan' without authorization.
- Illegal use may have legal repercussions.
PCB Claims Ownership of National Name
The board reiterated that the PCB is the sole owner of the name 'Pakistan' in cricket. Any use of it separately in private or international competitions will be barred.
- PCB explained: "Using the name without our permission is prohibited."
- Legal action will be taken against misuse.
Status of Pakistan Team in WCL Now
Even after the ban, Pakistan team playing in WCL has been allowed by PCB to remain. They are now scheduled to play against South Africa in the final.
