Shubman Gill Named ICC Player Of The Month For July

Excellent Performance in England Test Series

Shubman Gill received the ICC Player of the Month award for July following excellent performances during the Test series against England. The Indian captain made 567 runs in three Tests during July, with a batting average of 94.50. Ben Stokes (England) and Wian Mulder (South Africa) were also contenders, but Shubman got the award.

In the whole series against England, Shubman amassed 754 runs, which were four centuries, and was the highest run-scorer. This is his fourth Player of the Month award from the ICC in his career. He has also received it in January, February, and September this year. No player has ever won the award this many times in men's cricket. In women's cricket, the award has also been won four times by Hayley Matthews (West Indies) and Ashleigh Gardner (Australia).

England's Sophia Dunkley was awarded the ICC Women's Player of the Month for July after she had scored 270 runs in seven matches of the ODI and T20 series against India.

Memorable Double Century

Shubman called his double century while playing against England in the Birmingham Test as unforgettable.

I am glad to be chosen as ICC Player of the Month for July. My double hundred in Birmingham during the England tour is something that I will never forget. This tour was highly rewarding as a captain and gave me the opportunity to learn many things. I hope to continue this form of play in the next series," Shubman said.

In the second Test played in Birmingham, Shubman has scored 269 runs in the first innings and 161 runs in the second innings. India won the match and equalized the series. He also hit a century in the first innings of the first Test and in the second innings of the fourth Test.
