Commonwealth Games 2030: IOA Gives Go-Ahead For Bid Submission

India is set to host big international sporting events. The government at the center has already expressed its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) recently gave the green light for the bid to be put forward for the hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This was decided during a special general meeting. Bids are due by August 31.

Bid Process and Venue Selection

In March, the IOA wrote to show interest in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Reports indicate that the Union Ministry has decided Ahmedabad to be the place of hosting. Ahmedabad will be the central hub if India gets approved to host the 2036 Olympics. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Other Major Sports Events in India

Bhubaneswar has recently hosted the Continental Tour Bronze-level events under the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Adille Sumariwalla, ex-AFI spokesperson and current World Athletics Vice President, asserted readiness to host other big events. According to him, the World Athletics Championships, held biennially, should also be hosted in India. Programs consist of hosting the championships in Bhubaneswar in 2029 and Ahmedabad in 2031.
