IPL Player Trading to Begin Soon
The process of trading for the upcoming season of IPL will begin in a few days. Sanju Samson is reported to shift to another team. There also seem to be speculations regarding Ravichandran Ashwin's move away from Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Both players recently sat down with the Kutti Stories podcast, but they did not shed light on any trade here.
Ashwin Speaks on Trade Probability
Ashwin then discussed the Sanju Samson-CSK trade rumors. According to him, there is little chance of this trade taking place. He clarified that Rajasthan Royals (RR) are supposedly thinking of trading Sanju to CSK in return for another player and Ravindra Jadeja.
Ashwin broke down the problems:
- If CSK trades Sanju to RR, and RR subsequently attempts to trade with other teams, it might become difficult for them to acquire the players they wish to.
- RR needs a spinner such as Ravi Bishnoi, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
- For LSG, trading Bishnoi in exchange for Sanju would significantly impact their budget and is unlikely.
- CSK is not ready to release Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube.
- Even if RR wants them, such an exchange will not profit much for RR.
RR kept Sanju Samson for ₹18 crore prior to the previous mega auction. CSK kept Jadeja for ₹18 crore and shelled out ₹12 crore for Shivam Dube. This renders it practically impossible for CSK to release both players.
Brevis Transfer Details
Ashwin also talked about South African player Dewald Brevis. Some franchises fought to get him as a replacement player. But the majority pulled out after discovering the cost. CSK paid more than his base price of ₹75 lakh to get him.
Discussions took place with the player’s agents before signing. Brevis knows he could get a higher offer if released next season. CSK is expected to enter the next mini-auction with about ₹30 crore in their budget. Brevis joined CSK as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh.
