Controversy Surrounding Gestures
Pakistan players were blamed for their gestures during the Asia Cup Super 4 match against India. According to sources, the BCCI had complained to the ICC about the matter. India and Pakistan will clash again in the Asia Cup final. Pakistan, after defeating Bangladesh, advanced to the title showdown.
Coach Hessen's Remarks
Pakistan coach Mike Hessen also offered a defensive reply when asked about the gestures. He said his first concern is always cricket.
My job is playing cricket. You guys may be more aware of that kind of stuff. I have cricket problems only to watch. Players may get enthusiastic in such conditions. Such games have lots of pressure. We want to play good cricket and put pressure on powerful teams. That is our main challenge for the Asia Cup," Hessen responded.
He also added that Pakistan performed better than their inaugural game in the tournament.
"In the group stage, we could not play well. In the Super 4 match, we kept the game going longer. But Abhishek Sharma turned the tables. Now we again play India. We proved that we deserve to be in the final. We will try to win the trophy," Hessen added.
Captain Salman Agha's Statement
After the win against Bangladesh, Pakistan captain Salman Agha was confident.
"Winning such important matches shows that our team is special. All of them played well. We have to work on our batting a bit more. We can defeat anyone. I feel we can come back and win on Sunday against India," Salman said.
He also explained their plan against Bangladesh.
"Batting first, we fell short by 15 runs. But Shaheen bowled well and troubled them. Fielding was also good due to additional practice. Our coach says that if we don't field properly, we can't stay in the team," he explained.
