Deepti Sharma Creates History In Women's ODI World Cup

India's Win Over Sri Lanka

The Indian women's cricket team began the ODI World Cup on a winning note. India beat Sri Lanka by 59 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Deepti Sharma's Record Showing

All-rounder Deepti Sharma was the first Indian woman cricketer to achieve half-century and three wickets in a World Cup match. She is the sole Indian woman to do so. Previously, she had achieved the same performance once in ODIs, but for the first time in the World Cup.

Key Role With the Bat

India struggled in the first innings. Deepti Sharma played some aggressive cricket at that point. She scored 53 runs from 53 balls. With her, the total of India reached 269 runs. Aman Kaur also assisted the innings by getting 57 runs.

Match-Winning Spell With the Ball

In pursuit of 270 runs, Sri Lanka were looking ominous. Deepti Sharma got rid of captain Chamari Atapattu, who made 43 runs. She then picked two more wickets. Her bowling changed the course of the game in India's direction.

Awards and Records

For her all-round performance, the Player of the Match award went to Deepti Sharma. She has now taken 143 wickets in ODIs and is second-highest wicket-taker for India. Jhulan Goswami is number one with 255 wickets.
