Mohammed Shami Responds To Ajit Agarkar's Comments On Fitness

Shami Clarifies His Fitness Status

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami addressed recent remarks made by chief selector Ajit Agarkar about his fitness. Shami stated that he is bowling at full fitness and that everyone could see his performance. His comments followed Agarkar’s statement that there was no clear update on Shami’s fitness.

Shami protested against this on social media, expressing his astonishment at Agarkar's statement. "You all saw how I was bowling. Everything in front of you. Still, he made such statements. Alright, let me say what I must say," Shami said.

He recently picked up three wickets against Uttarakhand in a Ranji Trophy match at Eden Gardens, as Bengal gained a first-innings lead.

Agarkar Explains Selection Decision

Ajit Agarkar responded by explaining that if Shami were fully fit, he would have been included in the team. He mentioned that the selectors considered picking Shami for the Test series against England, but at that time, he was not completely fit.

Agarkar added that the second half of the Indian domestic season has just begun and that with more matches, Shami’s fitness will continue to improve. "If a bowler like Shami is fit, why won't we take him? If he plays more matches, his fitness level will improve. We have been in contact with him for the last six or seven months. I don't know why he has to respond on social media. He can communicate with me at any time. My mobile is always switched on," Agarkar added.

He also said that once Shami becomes fit fully, he will not just be looked at for the team but also for the playing XI.
