India Needs 237 Runs for Win
Australian side made 236 runs in 46.4 overs and stopped India at 237 run target in third ODI match of India vs Australia. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. Indian bowlers bowled with good strength and took wickets at regular intervals. Matt Renshaw scored highest with 56 runs, and Matthew Short (30) and Alex Carey (24) made supporting runs.
Indian bowlers were led by Harshit Rana, who took four wickets, Washington Sundar two, and Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Prasidh Krishna one apiece. All six Indian bowlers were able to take a wicket — something which did not happen last since 1986 against Australia.
Good Start but Later Collapse
The Sydney pitch was also friendly to the bat. Opener Mitchell Marsh (41) and Travis Head (29) opened well with a 50-run stand. Their attacking game strategy indicated that Australia might post a massive score. But Siraj got rid of Head on a short ball on backward point and Axar Patel sent Marsh back a bit later.
When they left, Renshaw stuck with Short and Carey. India's bowlers kept on attacking though. Virat Kohli gave Renshaw a great beginning to get him back to the pavilion, the turning point of the innings. Lower-order batsmen Cooper Connolly (23) and Nathan Ellis (16) took liberties to take the total well past 230. Ellis got taken by Prasidh Krishna, on which Australia's resistance came to an end.
Injury and Fielding Highlights
Shreyas Iyer hurt himself attempting to take a catch and was forced to go off the field. The BCCI has not reported anything concerning his health up till now.
There was rumour on the social media that this would be the final match for Virat Kohli, but he proved so in his performance. He was fit, fielded aggressively, and made a marvelous catch. Rohit Sharma was also in good shape in the field, with better quickness than in recent games.
