The Defeat That United The Team: Harmanpreet Kaur Reflects On World Cup Victory

India's Historic ODI World Cup Victory

The Indian women's cricket team became the first-ever ODI World Cup winner, at a time when reaching even to the semifinals sounded tough. The team made an incredible recovery and went ahead to win the championship. The captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, attributed this success to hard work by every player and support from management at all times. After the final match, she shared her thoughts about the journey and the challenges which came before the team.

The Turning Point: Learning from Defeat

Harmanpreet described the last month as challenging and rewarding. She said plans did not always materialize for the team, but they remained positive and focused. A painful loss against England became the major turning point in their journey. "That defeat hurt us deeply," she said. "We came close to victory but lost. It was difficult to accept, but instead of feeling discouraged, we looked at what to improve next."

Their coach reminded them not to make the same mistakes again and to work harder. Since then, everything changed for them as a team: the players were more disciplined and focused, mentally strong, and even began to visualize themselves as winners of the World Cup. Meditation made them calm and helped them to stay concentrated. Harmanpreet says the team played with joy and determination and those two things finally won them the trophy. She further added, "We now look forward to what future plans BCCI has for this team. Coaching and Leadership Impact Harmanpreet credited coach Amol Majumdar with playing a key role in shaping the team. His arrival brought stability to the team and changed the atmosphere in the dressing room for good, she claimed. "Before his appointment, coaches used to change often," she said. "With Majumdar sir, the team structure improved. He focused on teamwork and discipline. Under him, we practiced day and night." The continuity in the coaching helped the players grow in confidence and performance over two-and-a-half years. Harmanpreet termed it a privilege working under the leadership of Majumdar and underlined how his method and belief in the team were important for their victory in the World Cup.
