Possible Player Exchange for CSK
Reports suggest CSK may trade Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR in exchange for Sanju Samson. After such reports, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took to social media to present his take on how CSK may go about rebuilding their squad.
Ashwin's Picks for CSK
He said CSK should eye Nitish Rana from Rajasthan Royals and Venkatesh Iyer from Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction, adding that both players can bolster CSK's batting lineup, particularly in the top three.
Ashwin said, if Jadeja and Curran move to RR, CSK must fill the gap with consistent middle-order performers. Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer can bring balance to the lineup, he elaborated as:
- Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad can open the innings.
- Venkatesh Iyer or Nitish Rana should bat at number three.
- Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube can bat at number four and five.
- Cameron Green might replace number six as he recently batted in the middle order for Australia.
Player Strengths Highlighted by Ashwin
- Ashwin pointed out that Venkatesh Iyer has played a few good innings at Chepauk Stadium and can adapt to CSK's home conditions. He noted that while Iyer's style is very similar to Shivam Dube's, he has more variety with his sweep and reverse-sweep shots.
- He added that Nitish Rana is good at square boundary hitting, so that makes him a good fit in the middle order. Ashwin concluded by saying that the selection of both players will be a very smart call from CSK.
Coming IPL 2026 Auction Schedule
A mini-auction for IPL 2026 is expected to be held in the third week of December. The BCCI has instructed all franchises to send their list of retained and released players before November 15.
