Overview of the Player Trades
Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction, a number of franchises completed key player transfers. Chennai Super Kings transferred all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals. In return, CSK secured Sanju Samson from Rajasthan. These transfers have been officially confirmed by the IPL on November 15.
Why CSK Approved Jadeja's Transfer
The CSK CEO Kashi Viswanathan said that the team was keen to sign an experienced Indian top-order batsman. There were not many quality Indian batting options in the auction pool of players, hence CSK had to use the trade window. He added that letting go of Jadeja, who contributed to the success of the team for so many years, was indeed a painful but a needed step.
Decision Process of Team Management
The CEO said that the management discussed the move with the players before sealing the deal. Jadeja agreed to it. Sam Curran’s departure too was a tough choice, according to Viswanathan. He added that the team needs to plan for the future, and that was a chance to improve their batting lineup by trading in Sanju Samson, who has scored over 4,500 IPL runs and captained Rajasthan Royals.
Reaction From Fans and Management’s View
Viswanathan admitted disappointment among fans, whereas the franchise received several messages over the issue. He said that change is part of the sport, and CSK will strive for consistency in performance henceforth.
Jadeja's Record With CSK
He played 12 seasons for CSK, even leading them part of last season. He played a total of 186 matches for the team where he picked 143 wickets and scored 2,198 runs. Rajasthan Royals reduced his league fee from ₹18 crore to ₹14 crore. CSK bought Sanju Samson at ₹18 crore without making any changes to his fee structure.
