Sunil Gavaskar Advises Indian Batsmen To Observe Temba Bavuma

The first Test between India and South Africa was held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India were dismissed for 93 runs chasing a target of 124. South Africa won by 30 runs. The batsmen of both teams found it tough to score runs. But South African captain Temba Bavuma remained steady. He scored 55* from 136 balls with four boundaries. His innings became the only strong performance in the match.

Gavaskar’s View on Batting Approach

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also commented on the batting struggles for both sides. He suggested that Indian players should view the technique of Temba Bavuma, who stayed rooted to the crease and showed discipline. He further revealed that Indian batsmen will also need to adopt a similar approach on difficult pitches.

Gavaskar on Pitch Criticism

Gavaskar further spoke on the pitch criticism and the allegations that the Indian team had a say in pitch preparation. He clarified that no IPL franchise interferes with the curator. A curator is indeed independent, even if he is seen as being partial to a home team. According to Gavaskar, curators understand conditions better than anyone else.

Importance of Curator Independence

As per Gavaskar, nobody should interfere with a curator's work. He alerted that tampering with the pitch can always bring about adverse conditions. According to him, the curator needs complete freedom to prepare the surface as necessitated.
