Parthiv Patel Reflects on His Role in the 2003 Tournament
Recently, ex-Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel appeared on a comedy show. Water breaks were one point that surfaced during the conversation, and he had a light remark to share. He claimed he constructed a big house by serving water bottles to his teammates during the 2003 World Cup. Parthiv made his debut for India in 2002. He was selected for the 2003 World Cup squad but did not feature in any match. That year, India made it to the final but lost to Australia by 125 runs.
Parthiv said that he used to act like a sort of “water boy” in many matches. When Rahul Dravid was keeping wickets, he carried drinks around for his team. He said jokingly that during the whole 2003 World Cup, he tried giving water bottles to the players on the field and this effort helped him “build a big house.”
Youngest Indian Test Wicketkeeper Recalls Memories of Early Career
Parthiv made his international debut at a very tender age. He made his Test debut in England in 2002. At 17 years and 152 days, he was the youngest wicketkeeper to make a Test debut. While describing his first overseas tour, he remembered the sledging of English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. Parthiv revealed that he did not exactly understand what Flintoff remarked.
Parthiv played for India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 2 T20Is through his career. His last international outing was a Test match in 2018. He announced his retirement from all international cricket in 2020.
