Former Team India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth has said that the Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to take part in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The duo had put up good performances in the first ODI against South Africa played at Ranchi. While Virat Kohli scored a century (137), Rohit Sharma made a half-century (57).
Srikkanth commented on his YouTube channel, “Kohli and Rohit's game is outstanding. Without both players, India's plans for the 2027 World Cup will not succeed. Both must be part of the team. There is no doubt about this."
He added, “If Rohit and Kohli bat together for 20 overs, the opponents have little chance of winning. This was evident in the Ranchi match, where their partnership led India to victory, though South Africa showed strong resistance.”
Srikkanth also pointed out their focus on fitness. “Both players are working on fitness and maintaining form. They are playing only one format now, and that makes it tougher to maintain rhythm. Still, both are in good form. I believe Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are two players who have ensured their places in the team for the 2027 ODI World Cup. India cannot win without them,” he said.
In the Ranchi ODI, Rohit and Kohli shared a 136-run partnership for the second wicket in 109 balls. They also amassed 80 runs in the powerplay. India posted 349 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.
South Africa struggled initially, as they lost 4 wickets for 77 runs. Later, they fought back but eventually got all out for 332 runs in 49.2 overs. India won the match by 17 runs, securing a series lead of 1-0.
