Team India batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 and Test cricket. They feature in only ODI cricket at present. Former New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee thinks that they should take part in the ODI World Cup 2027.
Virat Kohli, who had two consecutive low scores in the Australia tour, regained form with a half-century in the third ODI. He continued his strong performance in the ODI series against South Africa, scoring back-to-back centuries in matches held in Ranchi and Raipur.
Rohit Sharma played equally well. He scored a century during the Australia tour and a half-century during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. Both players are in a good form at present and physically fit. The above points establish strong reasons for considering them for the ODI World Cup 2027.
Tim Southee said, "Virat Kohli is one of the best ODI batsmen. He is performing very well. Rohit Sharma also scored a century against Australia and continues to perform strongly. As long as they play well, they should remain in the team. Age should not be a barrier; it is just a number."
Team India is basically not performing well in Test cricket without their senior players. As fans and experts suggest, the presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI World Cup 2027 could raise the chances of success for India. According to the rankings by the ICC, Rohit Sharma is ranked 1st, while Virat Kohli is ranked 4th in ODIs.
