Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have already retired from T20 and Test cricket. They are into ODI cricket now. They are now geared up for preparing in the ODI World Cup 2027. Very recently, they kept their good form in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Rohit Sharma too contributed with half-centuries in Ranchi and Visakhapatnam - 57 and 75. Virat Kohli was in his classical elements. He scored back-to-back centuries, 135 and 102, in the first two ODIs and a half-century, 65*, in the third match. Kohli thus became the highest run-scorer in the series with 302 runs.
Harbhajan Singh, the former India cricketer, shared his opinion on his YouTube channel in this context.
Harbhajan Singh said, “Are there better players than Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? They should remain in the team. The team should use their experience to guide young players. If you make the team only of young players, there could be problems in big matches. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. After that, they may not get another chance.”
He added: “Looking at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s current form, Team India looks strong. They are keeping fit. But it is a uncertainty if they will get to play in the World Cup. Playing young players is good but senior players who can change a game should not be ignored.”
Harbhajan Singh also looked back at the last World Cup. He uttered, “Team India lost in the final because the pitch was slow. On a better pitch, the result could have been different. Australia played well under pressure and defeated India. Still, the Indian team performed well under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. So, first of all, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should be selected, and then other players join the team.
