Former Opener Criticizes Suryakumar Yadav's Form Ahead Of T20 World Cup

Concerns About the Performance of the Captain

Team India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has been in a bad patch for the last few months. He hasn't scored a single half-century in his past 20 innings. The whole matter has been commented upon by former opener Aakash Chopra. According to him, a captain does not just toss the coin or devise strategies; he has to score runs at the top four as well.

Chopra added, "Suryakumar has not played well in many matches over the past months. He averages only 14 in 17 innings with a low strike rate. On only two occasions has he scored more than 25 runs and no half-centuries."

Impact on Team India Ahead of T20 World Cup

  • The T20 World Cup is going to start in February 2026. Aakash Chopra pointed out the alarming factors for Team India: poor form of both captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill.
  • Chopra explained, “If players at number three or four do not consistently score runs, it affects confidence before the World Cup. Therefore, it is very important for Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill to bring up their form.”

Current Statistics of Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has made 263 runs in 14 T20 innings this year, averaging 23.90 without a half-century.

Upcoming Match and Expectations

The third T20 match will take place in Dharamshala. Fans now have their fingers crossed as they hope Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill will come out with all guns blazing in this match.
