Fourth India–South Africa T20 Match Cancelled Due To Fog

Match Abandoned Without A Ball Being Bowled

The fourth T20 between India and South Africa was abandoned without a ball being bowled as dense fog did not allow play to get underway at the Ekana Stadium. The umpires had gone for several inspections throughout the evening. Poor visibility forced them to call off the match. The toss could not be held either.

Fog and Air Pollution Concerns

Visibility remained as low as ever due to thick and polluted fog. On Wednesday, the air pollution level in Lucknow was recorded at extremely hazardous levels. A number of players were seen taking precautionary measures. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was spotted wearing a face mask during the delay.

Impact on the Series

After the abandonment of this match, both teams travel to Ahmedabad to play the fifth and final T20. India leads the series 2-1. This simply means that India cannot lose the series. A win in the final will seal the series for the team.

Match Scheduling Questions

The cancellation has begun a debate on whether international matches can be scheduled in North India during winters. Lucknow, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala are some of the cities that record high levels of pollution in November and December. Though the reason for the cancellation was fog, polluted air conditions were a major factor in the BOT.

Venue Rotation and Future Suggestions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had adopted a venue rotation policy as far as its international matches were concerned. However, there have been suggestions to make some changes in the venues: one suggestion is to reverse the venues between South Africa series and New Zealand series starting on January 11.

Next comes the white-ball series against New Zealand in

Player Feedback about Weather Conditions

The third T20 against South Africa was played in Dharamshala in extremely cold conditions. The temperatures were below ten degrees Celsius. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy said after the match that he never played in such conditions and found it very difficult to play.
