This was the first time that the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was won by the team representing the newly formed state of Jharkhand. In a one-sided final, they beat Haryana by 69 runs.
Ishan Kishan, the wicket-keeper batsman, was in his elements throughout the tournament. In the final match, Ishan scored an innings that turned out to be decisive in helping their team reach the target. Ishan scored 101 runs in 49 balls. In this innings, Ishan hit six fours and ten sixes. Ishan achieved his century in 45 balls.
Jharkhand’s Bat
Jharkhand scored an enormous total of 262/3 in 20 overs. There were quite a few player performances that took the forms of aggressive innings:
- Ishan Kishan: 101 off 49 balls
- Kumar Kushagra: 81 runs off 38 balls
- Anukul Roy: 40 not out off 20 balls
- Robin Minz: 31 not out off 14 balls
Such partnerships and scoring rates were putting a lot of pressure on the Haryana team right from the outset.
Indian Premiere League: Haryana’s Chase
Haryana lost their three wickets for a mere 36 runs. Yashvardhan Dalal, Nishant Sindhu, and Samant Jakhar attempted to rebuild their innings:
- Yashvardhan Dalal: 53 runs off 22 balls
- Nishant Sindhu: 31 runs off 15 balls
- Samant Jakhar: 38 runs off 17 balls
Nonetheless, the target still seemed too large.
Jharkhand’s Bowling
The Jharkhand bowlers bowled disciplined bowling:
- Sushant Mishra: 3 wickets for 27 runs
- B. Krishna: 3 wickets for 38 runs
- Vikas Singh: 2 wickets for 30 runs
- Anukul Roy: 2 wickets for 42 runs
This made for a comfortable victory.
Awards
Ishan Kishan was awarded the Player of the Match award for his century in the final match. The Player of the Series award was given to Anukul Roy for his performance in the series.
