India's women's cricket team is leading comprehensively in the five-match T20 series being played with Sri Lanka. After the impressive victory in the first and second matches, the team is now aiming for a series win in the third T20. This will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
Strong all-round performance so far
- It has been observed that the Indian cricket team has been consistent with both the bat and the ball in the initial matches. The bowlers have been applying consistent pressure, while the batsmen have successfully overhauled the target matches with ease. It has been difficult for Sri Lanka to match the form of the Indian cricket team.
- In the first two matches played, Sri Lanka could score only 121 and 128 runs. India's disciplined bowling attack is not allowing Sri Lankan batsmen to settle down.
Bowling Unit Leads the Charge
- The spinners, Sricharani and Vaishnavi Sharma, have bowled economically. The pace bowler, Kranthi Gowd, has also performed quite well. The bowlers have made it relatively easy for the batsmen by picking wickets and restricting the flow of runs.
- Deepti Sharma, who had missed the second match owing to fever, is likely to make a comeback for the third T20 match. The addition of this talented all-rounder would surely boost their bowling attack.
Batting Form and Expectations
- Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma are doing well, having scored half-centuries in the series. It has been their performance at the top that has led to their team’s success.
- The current total of runs from Smriti Mandhana in the first two matches is 25 and 14. The team would expect her to perform better in their next match. As the first order has successfully chased runs, the mid and low-order players have had very less opportunities.
Sri Lanka Looks for Comeback
Sri Lanka will hope to survive the series by winning the third game. Sri Lanka’s last T20 win against India was in 2024. Sri Lanka has lost nine out of a total of 11 T20 games against India.
Records and Venue Conditions
Deepti Sharma is just four wickets away from setting a new record in international T20 cricket. Deepti has 148 wickets under her belt. In Greenfield Stadium, only one team batting first has emerged victorious in the four international T20 matches played. The wicket favors the batting team, although the effects of dew might be considered towards the later part of the game. Based on the above aspects, the team which wins the toss would like to take the field first.
