He clarified that Varun possesses an X-factor quality and hence can change the course of the game in a major tournament. Ashwin strongly believes that Varun would be one of the prime players during the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India is going to host.
Moreover, he underscored the struggles Varun faced in his cricketing journey. Ashwin pointed out that Varun was ousted from the squad, and later on, through sheer determination, he was able to make a comeback. From his return, Varun has been a consistent performer and has even ascended to the top of the T20 bowling ranking. Ashwin also remarked that cricket was not the first choice for Varun.
