The ex-fast bowler of Australia Jason Gillespie was appointed as coach of the Pakistan team in 2024. Later, without any public explanation, he quit the position. Not long ago, Gillespie, after being directly asked by a user, confessed the reasons of his decision on social media.
Dismissal of Assistant Coach Without Communication
- Gillespie said that he was at the position of the Test chief coach in Pakistan at that time. He detailed how the Pakistan Cricket Board dismissed the main assistant coach without letting him know. He mentioned that as the head coach he got no prior intimation or reason.
- Gillespie called this ruling intolerable. At the same time, he said there were other events in his period that he found demeaning. The latter were among the factors that drove him to quit.
Worries About Leadership Engagement
- Besides, Gillespie had earlier talked about the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He expressed his concern over the latter’s absence from the team connection camp. Gillespie shared that he came from Australia and Gary Kirsten from South Africa to take part in the camp held in Pakistan.
- Even though he was in Lahore at that time, Naqvi did not come to the meeting physically. He, instead, joined the conversation via video call. Gillespie remarked that a very fruitful exchange of ideas and discussion among the team took place at the camp.
- Moreover, he expressed that both he and Gary Kirsten were very disappointed. According to Gillespie, it was strange that the chairman did not show up for the meeting since he was very close by.
