The participation of Bangladesh in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 is still uncertain. The Mustafizur Rahman controversy has caused this matter. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has told the ICC that because of the security issues, they will not send their players to India. The BCB has also asked the ICC to change where their games will be held. It has been said that the ICC has turned down this request in a polite manner. There has been no comment from either side yet. If the matches of the Bangladesh team cannot be shifted to another venue, then it is still unclear whether the team will be a part of the tournament.
Mahedi Hasan Comments on the Situation
The Bangladesh all-rounder Mahedi Hasan spoke about the situation with its confusion. He mentioned that the team management will be in charge of the matter. He assured that playing is the only responsibility of the players. Hasan also commented, "Even if the players are taken to Mars, they will still have to perform. I guess no one will have doubts in this regard."
Najmul Hossain Shanto Shares His View
In the midst of the whole issue, the former T20 World Cup captain of Bangladesh, who is not in the national team at present, Najmul Hossain Shanto, also expressed his view. Shanto said, "Before every World Cup, something keeps coming up, which may be a direct or indirect cause of the problem. However, I have encountered similar situations during my experience of the several World Cups I have played."
He further observed that such problems can directly hamper the performance of the players. He added that the players always try to keep their focus on the game in spite of the obstacles. It is better if such issues don't arise, he says, but they are beyond the players' control.
