ICC Suggests Alternative Venues For Bangladesh's T20 World Cup Matches

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has alerted International Cricket Council (ICC) about its worries for the T20 World Cup matches' venue in India. BCB talked about security issues and demanded the transfer of Bangladesh matches to Sri Lanka.

ICC Replies to BCB Request

  • The ICC has given a thought to this request from BCB. There are reports that the ICC has, in a friendly way, turned down the proposal of relocating games to Sri Lanka. This communication came about because the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders decided to sever connections with Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman, which was the BCCI's instruction.
  • Kolkata and Mumbai were planned to host Bangladesh group-stage games according to the original schedule.

Proposed Locations in India

  • The ICC did not completely take the matches out of India but rather suggested Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram as possible venues instead. These cities were proposed as possible replacements for Kolkata and Mumbai. Still, the ICC has not made any formal announcement regarding this suggestion.
  • There are whispers that BCB has turned its back on these alternatives. The board stated that it would not be able to finalize anything unless the Bangladesh government gives its nod.

BCB Seeks Government Approval

BCB President Aminul Islam was the one who publicly supported this position. He said that the board would not go solo on the World Cup issue. The announcement will be made only after consultation with the government.

ICC Perhaps to Cite Recent Instances

  • India and New Zealand have lately played a match in Vadodara. Bangladeshi umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat, who was in charge of that match, had no problems. Moreover, Saikat and Gazi Sohel are also scheduled for officiating T20 World Cup matches.
  • The ICC could potentially use these instances to support their argument of safe participation in India, considering the BCB's security issues.

Official Decision Soon to Be Announced

With just a month left until the T20 World Cup starts, the ICC is anticipated to make an official announcement regarding this situation shortly.
