Vihan Malhotra’s Century Powers India To Big Win

The Super Six matches of India in the Under-19 World Cup started with a victory against their initial opponent. India won its opening Super Six match against Zimbabwe on Tuesday with a victory by 204 runs. The result brought India closer to reaching the semi-final stage.

India Posts a Strong Total

  • India achieved a total of 352 runs after losing eight wickets to their opponents. Vihan Malhotra played a key role and remained unbeaten on 109 runs from 107 balls. His innings included seven fours which helped India establish a solid early advantage.
  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 52 runs from 30 balls which included four fours and four sixes to give his team the first momentum. Abhigyan Kundu added stability with 61 runs from 62 balls.
  • India faced a difficult phase after losing several quick wickets. The score reached 130 when Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed along with his teammates Aaron George who scored 23 runs Ayush Matre who scored 21 runs and Vedant Trivedi who scored 15 runs. Vihan and Abhigyan then rebuilt the innings with a steady partnership. Vihan continued his calm batting style after Abhigyan got out. He added useful runs with Khilan Patel who scored 30 runs and Ambrish who scored 21 runs. Vihan reached his century as India reached 350 runs during the 49th over of the match.
  • Chimugoro achieved three wickets for Zimbabwe. Mazai and Simbarashe shared two wickets each.

India’s Bowlers Dominate the Chase

  • Zimbabwe encountered difficulties at the start of their chasing attempt. The Indian bowlers maintained their discipline which resulted in three wickets during the first 24 runs of the match. Chivwala and Blignaut attempted a recovery by taking the score to 93 for four wickets in 26.4 overs.
  • The Indian bowlers managed to get another wicket which broke the existing partnership. Zimbabwe lost their remaining wickets quickly and were bowled out for 148 runs in 37.4 overs. Chivwala scored the most runs for his team by making 62 runs while Blignaut brought home 37 runs.
  • Ayush Matre led the bowling effort with three wickets for 14 runs. Uddhav Mohan also took three wickets, conceding 20 runs. Ambrish supported well with two wickets for 19 runs.

Group Standings and Qualification Scenario

India currently leads Group 2 with six points and a strong run rate of 3.337. England also has six points, while Pakistan has four points. India will face Pakistan in their final Super Six match on February 1. The points earned against teams that reached the Super Six stage are carried forward. India had already secured four points from wins over New Zealand and Bangladesh in the group stage. The superior run rate allows India to maintain a strong position for the semi-finals.
