The Under-19 team from India maintained its successful performance in the One-Day World Cup by advancing to the final match. India achieved a seven-wicket victory against Afghanistan during their semi-final match on Wednesday. India achieved this victory after they successfully completed the largest run chase in Under-19 World Cup history.
India's Record-Breaking Chase
- India achieved a successful run chase by reaching 311 runs within 41.1 overs while losing only three wickets. The chase was built on a match-winning century by Aaron George, who scored 115 runs from 104 balls. His innings included 15 fours and two sixes.
- Vaibhav Suryavanshi began the match with his aggressive batting performance. He scored 68 runs from 33 balls, which included nine fours and four sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre supported well in the middle order with 62 runs from 59 balls. Vihan scored 38 runs and remained not out to help his team win the match.
- Afghanistan's most effective bowler, Nuristani, achieved success by taking two wickets.
Afghanistan Establishes a Strong Total
- Afghanistan scored 310 runs for the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. Openers Usman Sadat and Khalid Ahmad Joy added 53 runs for the first wicket. The batsmen who came after them, Faisal Shinwari and Uzairullah, took control of the innings.
- Shinwari scored 110 runs from 93 balls, while Uzairullah remained unbeaten on 101 from 86 balls. Their partnership placed Afghanistan in a strong position, with the score reaching 265 for two wickets at one stage.
- Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan from India each took two wickets during the match. The other bowlers were unable to restrict the scoring rate.
Match Turns in India’s Favor Early
- The Indian team achieved their objective when their first three batsmen delivered an exceptional performance which enabled the team to achieve victory.India reached 50 runs in the sixth over. Vaibhav scored his half-century achievement after 24 balls but he got out during the tenth over when the score reached 90 runs.
- Aaron George then added 114 runs for the second wicket with Ayush Mhatre.India reached 200 runs during their 27th over of play. After Mhatre’s dismissal, Aaron and Vihan added 96 runs for the third wicket. Aaron reached his century score after 95 balls but he got out when India needed 11 runs. Vihan and Vedant completed the chase.
Final Set Against England
- The final match between India and England will take place on Friday.England secured their spot in the final match by defeating Australia who they defeated by 27 runs during the first semi-final.
- India competes in the 16th Under-19 ODI World Cup with their tenth final appearance. The tournament remains unbroken for both India and England.
