Ishan Kishan Leads India to a Strong Total
- India reached a score of 175 runs with 7 wickets remaining after playing 20 overs on a slow pitch that favored spin bowling. Ishan Kishan played a key role. He scored 77 runs from 40 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. He maintained scoring through difficult situations while performing well against spin bowling.
- Tilak Varma scored 25 runs from 24 balls and Suryakumar Yadav the captain added 32 runs from 29 balls. Shivam Dube scored a quick 27 from 17 balls toward the end. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 11 and added important runs in the final over.
- Saim Ayub for Pakistan achieved an effective performance through his 3 wickets which he took at a cost of 25 runs during 4 overs. Tariq claimed 1 wicket for 24 runs. Pakistan established a T20 World Cup record by using six spin bowlers during their innings.
Pakistan Faced Difficulties Because of Their Early Wicket Losses
- Pakistan lost their first three wickets after chasing 176 runs which resulted in their complete match loss. Hardik Pandya dismissed Farhan in the first over. Jasprit Bumrah removed Saim Ayub and Salman Agha in the second over. Pakistan fell to 13 for 3 within two overs.
- Axar Patel dismissed Babar Azam for 5 runs, reducing Pakistan to 34 for 4. Usman Khan attempted to stabilize the innings. He scored 44 runs from 34 balls, including 6 fours and 1 six. Pakistan's resistance weakened after he got stumped by Ishan Kishan who caught him at Axar's delivery.
- The pace attack received support from Kuldeep Yadav Varun Chakravarthy and Tilak Varma who achieved essential wickets. Pakistan lost all their wickets while scoring 114 runs in 18 overs. Bumrah Hardik Axar and Varun each achieved two wickets.
The Match Is Controlled By Spin Bowlers
- The Colombo pitch provided spin support throughout the entire match. Both teams depended on their slow bowlers for the match. Pakistan used six spinners in their bowling while India used three specialist spinners who played along with their part-time bowlers.
- Spinners bowled a total of 31 overs during the match which resulted in 11 wickets. Fast bowlers made limited contributions to the match except during the initial wickets which they took in Pakistan's batting chase.
No Handshake Between Teams
Players from both teams refused to shake hands at any point during the match. India and Pakistan have followed this approach since the Asia Cup last year. The captains also avoided a handshake during the toss.
